The Cigarette Smoking Mess October 12, 2007

December 27, 2007 Dangers from Phizer's Chantix
The Chantix success ratio was finally reported at 24%, which is only 4% higher than those quitting smoking without outside help--the non-drug treatment and placebo affect would more than account for such a low level of success. Zyban success ratio was report as 18%, 2% lower than those who quit without outside help, but the non-drug support was said to be inferior to the Chantix program, which could account for the lower numbers.

The Cigarette Smoking Mess March 17, 2007
Wow! I finally did something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I reworked my "beloved" quit smoking program (The Weisbrod Cigarette Smoking Elimination Program) into a digital format.

I couldn't change it ...I was at the top-of-my-game as a therapist when I put the final touches on this program in the early 1990s, and I didn't want to mess-with-success. I simply reproduced the audio cassettes into mp3 and typed the workbook into an easy-to-print HTML format. It turned out to be just in time ...a couple of the audio cassettes were right on the edge of failure. *whew*

A couple of folks have already used the program.
I'll talk more about this "rebirth" in Podcast #10s.

FYI, I dropped the regularly scheduled Skype meetings in favor of having folks schedule a private session, or use the already scheduled TalkShoe program--I often discuss other topics at the end of the scheduled shows. Here's the link for that: >click<

~ Show Notes ~ December 26thRevised January 3, 2007
The Quit Smoking Edition #9s has been ready to record, but gad, I lost my voice to a friggin virus. I'll get it recorded and on-line by Wednesday ...maybe even today.

Nope couldn't shake those nasty little bugs--voice still scratchy today, but it's done.

Here's the ID3 tag: In this issue, I attack Pfizer Pharmaceuticals with their newest snake-oil preparation called Chantix. In an unrelated issue, I explain the reason behind the hiatus from my TalkShoe program, but with a substitute using Skype. This will offer my subscribers and me a way to talk live.

The schedule for the Skype/Smoking program is
9pm Eastern Standard time. That will be 8pm Central, 7pm Mountain, 6pm Pacific Standard Time... 5:00 in Alaska and 4pm here in Hawaii. I'll be waiting at my Skype board every Monday.

~ Show Notes ~
October 19th The Quit Smoking Edition #8s is online here and at the Podshow location.

Here's the ID3 tag. I began by grumbling about people that like to argue without having the facts at their disposal. I discussed radiating spheres of knowledge. I complained about those that put out really bad information about cigarette smoking. I wondered out loud how many people would quit smoking if they knew what I know. I talked about secular and non-secular bases of information. I mentioned evolution and a new book about Charles Darwin that is very enlightening. I discussed the Latin roots of scientific terms, specifically the earth sciences.

The Cigarette Smoking Mess September 27, 2006
If you're a subscriber, I'm sure you've noticed that I've been unable to keep up with podcasts for my Quit Smoking Podcast. So, beginning with issue #70 of the From Hawaii Podcast, I've initiated a new format.

I've adopted a kind of magazine style to discuss a little bit about each topic listed in my schedule. Along with this blog topic, I'm including news from Hawaii; the dilemma of some seniors & stay-at-home-moms; e-commerce opportunities; hypnotism; allegories; charisma; health issues (including weight control); painful psychological problems such as the broken heart;  and I may talk about some unique podcasts I've discovered.

This is the weblog link: http://www.askcarl.net/PodcastWDS.html

Using this link, you can check out the latest issues including show notes for each. I will continue to produce shows for the Quit Smoking podcast but in between, you can hear some short but relevant ideas and concepts.

I will, however, continue the serial: The Psychology of Mythology.

Don't forget about the Archive Program. In the past couple of weeks, I've updated it quite a bit. It's at http://www.podcastwds.com

~ Show Notes ~ September 8th The Quit Smoking Edition #7s Is now online here and at the Podshow location. This show starts with a discussion of cigarettes representing a scandal of epic proportions, something I've discussed frequently. I read from a 1981 book Conceptual Problem Solving, in which I first published the formula approach to problem-solving. I then outlined a radical concept for offering my services in which everything but the consultation is offered free. http://www.wdslibrary.com/pc7s.mp3

In issue #6, I started with a compact but comprehensive over-view of the cigarette smoking issue in general. I offered some rare in-sights only a smoking cessation therapist would know. I talked again about the political and economic factors surrounding smoking. I complained about the role of a popular US Surgeon General in a misdiagnoses of smoking behavior that many now accept as factual. Toward the end, I reviewed the five previous podcast shows in preparation for submission to the archive program.

Cigarette Smoking  July 28, 2006
For those that have been following this blog, I'm going to attempt the impossible... to write something every day. I probably won't make that, but I'll come as close as I can.

I feel bad that so many smokers feel that it's next to impossible to quit.  That just not true! By setting up the proper "mind-set" you will go through three days of stress, but after that it's all downhill. Feel free to challenge me on this point...see if I can back it up.

If you haven't yet, listen to the podcasts linked below and read the free eBook. Here's the #1 show: >FastScroll<

The Cigarette Smoking Mess July 26, 2006
Goodheavens! This is a terrible problem to have. People say that we all must die from something...it might as well be from something they enjoy. What's wrong with that?

Well, one thing...cigarettes turns the smoker into an invalid long before it takes their life. If you make a list of questions, I would be happy to address them the best I can in a podcast.

Another point: Cigarette smoking is an associated pleasure. What's the difference? Ask me and I'll do a podcast about the difference between real and associated pleasures.

This is a non-podcast post -- gotta keep the blog RSS alive. If you don't listen to podcasts, I would like to encourage you to test drive one.

If you go to PodcastIndex you will find all the tools and instructions necessary to get started as a listener.

Or if you scroll down this blog, you will find (scattered within the posts) all five podcasts in which I talk about smoking elimination. A good way to quit smoking (without spending a dime) is to simply inform yourself. As the mystery of cigarette smoking disappears so will the fear of failure.

In issue #5, I struggled a bit looking of something to discuss that I haven’t covered in the eBook and previous podcasts. I grumbled about folks that contact me with questions that strongly suggest they haven’t read or listened to my stuff. I got off track by talking about migration and issues of globalism, but it fits together as a warning against federal intervention in relationship to smoking elimination.
